The book Fáilte Pope Francis began as a competition run in The Irish Catholic for children aged 6-9 to draw a picture and write a letter of welcome to the Pope prior to his arrival in Ireland. The most engaging entries were selected to make up this beautiful book. The letters are touching and heart-warming, as the children describe their nightly prayers and their excitement for their First Communions. The letters are also humorous at times – only a child would be bold enough to ask the Pope to join them for a spot of hurling! The letters are accompanied by colourful, imaginative drawings that capture the joy that the papal visit inspired. All royalties from the sale of this book go to The Children’s Medical and Research Foundation (CMRF).
