Fr McArdle writes of this book: This book has been with me for a long time now. I constantly find a need to return to the basics. As someone who spent many years as a teacher, I appreciate the treasure of having a good teacher. When I decided to return to basics, I could think of no greater teacher than Mary my Mother. After all, she was there from the very beginning, and she has had a central role to play in the story of our salvation since. As far as it was possible for me, I let her lead, allowed her to do the talking, and some of the titles of the chapters took me by surprise! I tried to make the situation as real as I could, and I tried not to let my attention wander from myself at my Mother’s knee. Over the past few years, I have exchanged ‘devotion to Mary’ with ‘a relationship with Mary’. I can honestly say that she is now my Mother. This has been a gradual process, but a very worthwhile one. The writing of this book was inevitable because I found myself speaking more and more to others about attending her Playschool.
