‘A Year in the Life: Glencairn Abbey’ reviewed in The Irish Catholic

Though many people casually think of as a nun’s day as one of prayer and devotion this has never really been the case. For in their enclosed world laborare est orare – to work is to pray – has real meaning.

This lovely book of photographs gives an impression of that life and what it entails for Sisters of St Mary’s Abbey in Glencairn, Co. Waterford. It is well to recall, too, that though familiar to older readers their way of life portrayed may come as a revelation to a younger generation.

Perhaps from what they see and read here some will be inspired to learn a little more, and perhaps find out for themselves the attractions of the conventual life.
